The Year 2 classes returned from lunch to find a mysterious message in their classrooms. Some children suspected it had been left by a clever snail, just like in the book we are reading in literacy.

The message said ‘Save the whale,’ and told them to go to the playground.

“We were surprised to see an enormous whale lying beached in the bay,” said Star.

Fortunately for the whale, the children acted quickly, digging out the sand from around it and splashing it with water to keep it cool.

When the tide began to come in, they helped the whale back into the sea.

“We had to work together to get the whale back to the sea,” said Abdullah.
