Balance Cakes

Today in Nursery Tam requested lemon drizzle cakes so we made ‘balance cakes’.  We balanced each ingredient with an egg to check how much we needed.  Here is the method we used:

Ingredients: caster sugar, butter, eggs, self-raising flour, lemons, baking powder.

  1. Place the egg on one side of the balance scale.
  2. Balance the sugar with the egg then pour the sugar in a bowl.
  3. Balance the butter with the egg then add the butter to the sugar.
  4. Cream the butter and sugar.
  5. Zest the lemon and mix it with the butter and sugar cream.
  6. Balance the flour with the egg then add it to the bowl.
  7. Add a teaspoon of baking powder to the bowl.
  8. Crack the egg into the bowl and mix all the ingredients together.
  9. Place the mixture in cup cake cases.
  10. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celcius and place cakes in the oven for 15 minutes.
