Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic day outdoors as the entry point for our new topic, ‘Flowers and Insects’.

We visited Gillespie Park Ecology Centre, where we took part in lots of different activities.

First we sorted different types of plants and learned about which are flowering and which are non-flowering. We then learned about the parts of a plant and what they are for. We searched for plants in the outdoor area and looked closely at their colours and the shape of their leaves, then labelled them.

We also spent some time at Finsbury Park, challenging ourselves on the climbing frame and creating artwork inspired by the beautiful flowers and insects we’d seen.
