Next week (2nd to 6th March) is ‘Brecknock Book Week’. This will coincide with ‘World Book Day’ on Thursday 5th March. As usual Az has arranged lots of amazing activities, events and competitions for the children to take part in.
This year, as well as the usual dressing up competition, there will be many opportunities for the children to win book related prizes. There will be book quizzes, a bookmark design competition, a writing competition, a handwriting competition and a book review competition.
To kick off the weeks celebrations on Monday afternoon, KS2 will be having a visit from the amazing children’s author, Guy Bass. He will be staying behind after school to do some book signings if anyone would like to meet him and buy a book.
On Thursday, as part of the ‘World Book Day’ celebrations, we will be having our annual dressing-up competition. The theme for this year is ‘Magic’ or ‘Humour’. There will prizes for the best dressed and most imaginative costumes from each class. The more original the costume the better! As this year we are doing our book day on the same day as the ‘World Book Day’ it is likely that dressing up props and costumes will be very much in demand. So if you plan to visit places like Escapade in Camden for items and inspiration, we expect many people will be planning the same as schools across Camden and beyond will all be doing their dressing up on the same day and looking for things to wear. Plan ahead to avoid disappointment!
If you have any questions about anything happening during our book week please ask your child’s class teacher. We really believe reading, and developing a love or reading, is key to the future success of our children and hope you will support us in this endeavour as you always do.
