Reception are looking after some Giant African Land Snails. Last week we learnt they are native to East Africa and can grow to 25 centimetres in length! We learnt that they can be picked up gently by their shells but we have to make sure our hands are clean and damp. We learnt that we should feed our giant snails leafy greens every day such as lettuce, cabbage and spinach. Snails also need calcium so we have given our snails a cuttlefish bone. We also give them a shallow bowl of fresh water, just a few millimetres in depth, otherwise they could drown. Here are some photos of us holding our snails. Some of us then went on to make a snail booklet where we wrote what the snails look and feel like.
