The Year 2 classes enjoyed a fantastic trip to see Tower Bridge and Monument.

We saw lots of famous buildings including the Tower of London, the Gherkin and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

It was amazing to walk on the glass floor on Tower Bridge and watch the vehicles and people passing by below us.

We learned that the bridge took 8 years and over 11,000 tonnes of steel to build! It was quite dangerous to be one of the construction workers on the bridge – 10 people died while working on it.

After stopping by the side of the Thames to eat our lunch, we walked on to Monument, passing by Pudding Lane on the way.

We found out that Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke designed monument to commemorate the Great Fire of London. It is 62 metres tall, and its height marks its distance from the site of the shop of Thomas Farynor, the king’s baker, where the Great Fire began.

There are 311 steps to get to the top – we know because we climbed them all!
