Zakariye: Good afternoon and welcome to the amazing 5M’s class assembly.
Vanessa: In today’s assembly, we’ll be telling you what we’ve been learning in class so far this term.
Zakhi: Our learning this term includes studying the book Grandpa Chatterji in Literacy, Moving People in Topic and brass in music.
Kenza: In literacy, in the last few weeks, we’ve been reading Grandpa Chatterji by Jamila Gavin.
Chloe: The story is about Neetu and Sanjay’s and their grandfathers. Grandpa Leicester is mean, strict and always has to be listened to. However, Granpda Chatterji is different. One day, he comes to visit and they get a big surprise.
Tahmid: We’ve been using this book to help us make better sentences using adverbials of time and manner.
Ruben: An adverbial is a phrase that adds extra detail to a sentence but wouldn’t work on its own. E.g. The following day, in the blink of an eye or as quick as a flash.
Zione and Erona: Explanation of the sentences.
At dawn, Grandpa Chatterji arrived at the house, in the blink of an eye.
Zione: Here we have our adverbial of time, subject, verb, object and adverbial of manner.
Erona: We can change the order to mix it all up. How many ways can you change it, do you think?
Habib: We used these sentences to describe the contrasting cities of Calcutta and Leicester.
Two readers: Nell, Tahmid
Sara: In topic, we have been studying Moving People. We haven’t done a lot just yet but we have started.
Lou-Lou: In the second week back, on the Thursday, we went to Hampstead Heath in order to know what it is like to get kicked out of a house. We built shelters out of stick and leaves, as well as three objects to help us survive.
Mia: In music, we have been playing brass instruments. Some of us played trumpets and some of us played trombones. Here’s a demonstration of what we’ve learnt so far.
Trumpets: Nell, Zakhi
Trombones: Mohammed, Tahmid
George: Thank you for listening to our assembly.
