Reception

All of the information from the ‘Meet The Team’ meeting can be found here.

There are seven areas of learning in the Early Years Curriculum: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

The children experience a balance of adult-led and child-led learning, This involves whole class , guided group work and independent tasks . As the year progresses, there are daily guided reading and phonics lessons.

Reading books go home every afternoon and need to be brought to school the next morning in their Brecknock book bag. We encourage you to read these books with your child, for example as a bedtime story, and talk about it. Children who hear and join in with lots of stories tend to make fast progress when they start to read themselves.

Home School Partnership At this age, children are learning from all their play, so we are keen to celebrate achievements made at home as well as school. Throughout the year, we send home ‘wow’ cards so parents can record these achievements and add them to our display. This also helps us as we build a picture of their progress and plan the right learning for them.

Literacy and Maths Open Mornings We invite parents to come and read a picture book to their child and a couple of friends on Story Friday at 9.05. At our ‘Family Maths’ and ‘Family Literacy’ mornings you can watch a lesson and then join in with your child at a range of activities. Not only will this show you how we teach Literacy and Maths, but also give you ideas about how to help at home. We provide resources to take away.
