Brecknock continued its wonderful tradition of delivering yet another brilliant World Book Day. The children looked fantastic! The effort that went in from staff, children and parents to make the day a success was phenomenal!
We began the day by kicking off with KS2. Children and adults shared their costumes! Soon after, we got to the heart of the event, which was the children’s writing. Each teacher told the assembly about why the winning piece was so good, what moved them as the reader, and which techniques of writing the child used to particularly good effect. The writing ranged from comedy to horror, and there was a profound silence as we got to hear extracts from each story!
After lunch, the EYFS and KS1 assembly began as it traditionally does, with a story, acted out by teachers – Marianne joined in as our narrator! The children really enjoyed seeing ‘Chicken Licken’ come to life!
Not to be outdone by KS2, Reception and KS1 children also had their writing read out to the assembly! We heard about the effort and perseverance put into work from children as young as four! All winning writing pieces received a free book as their prize – and we cannot wait to read more soon!
Every child in the school has been given a World Book Day token – you can buy a book for £1 or get £1 discounted from a different book. Extra book tokens will be going out to the winners of the book quiz, book review, handwriting, bookmarks and dressing up competitions!
Happy Book Day everyone!
