It’s not long until the SATs test and like all of year 6, Don’s maths group has been working very hard going back over everything they have learnt. Today their knowledge of shape and scale factors was tested by an activity in the playground. The children were given some shapes to draw. However, they were only given one side length and one angle (sometimes none!) and had to use their knowledge of the proerties of different shapes to work out all the other dimensions. They were also given a scale factor for the shape which when they drew their version in the playground – using a metre stick, giant protractor and some chalk – they had to change all the side lengths approriately. It was great to see how much the children have learned about shape – all of them very capable of working out all the dimensions and angles. Their protractor work has improved greatly too – all shapes were drawn well. Well done to them and good luck for the tests!
