During the first week of term ‘The Sumatran Soldiers’ immersed themselves into island life learning all about the island of Sumatra:
The tropical island of Sumatra lures you in with its colourful jungles that are bursting with an orchestra sound. The humid weather perfect for the wildlife it hosts invites holiday goers all year round. Animal lovers can witness the endangered Sumatran tigers, active macaws and peaceful orang-utans while adventure seekers can trek around steaming volcanoes. The mouth-watering mangoes ripen in the shine of the daily sun as the molten lava bubbles below. The golden beaches that you’ll instantly fall head over heels for push you beyond your wildest imagination – Sumatra really is bursting with life. Marcello and Shukri
We were lucky enough to have actual artefacts from the island: a prayer mat, luwak coffee, sarongs, rupees and batik, and even had an Indonesian feast of Nasi Goreng, Sambal, Durian Jelly and Milo.
Ask your children what they know about Sumatra and look out for our corridor display and book corner, all of which is Sumatra themed.
