The Mathmagicians of Year 6 have been putting their learning into context!
We set off on an investigation to find the coldest part of the school during the snowy weather earlier in the year then correlated the data found by finding the mean, mode and median.
We have been making mocktails and working out the ratio of the ingredients, percentage of each ingredient and fraction of each ingredient … for example in Very Berry, 1 shot out of 8 shots was strawberry and lime juice which is equivalent to 30ml out of 240ml, 1/8 and 12.5%
We have also been cooking pizzas from scratch, but we only had a recipe that fed 100 people so we had to scale it down for a group of 4 – we divided each item on the ingredients list by 25, we had to be careful to convert units and think of the best methods to apply when calculating. We then voted for different toppings and used the results to construct pie charts – did you know 270 degrees out of 360 degrees (a circle) is the same as 3/4 and 75%?
