Mission X Launch! Year 5 help Astro Charlie walk to the Moon!!

Today Year 5 attended the launch of the UK ‘Mission X’ project.

Mission X is an international schools program run by NASA. As part of their ‘Mission to Mars’ topic, children will be taking part in activties that help them understand what it is like to ‘train like an astronaut’! Everytime they complete a task, they will help the mission mascot ‘Astro Charlie’ take steps towards the Moon.

Did you know?

The average distance from the earth to the moon is 238,857 miles or 384,403 km.

It would take the average human 478 MILLION steps to get to the moon, and at a speed of 3 mph or 4.8 km/h, it would take 79,619 hours. If you walked by yourself, and did not stop, it would take you about 9 YEARS to get to the moon.

The children learned about space exploration, successful (and failed) space missions, and even that astronauts wear giant nappies!!

If you see someone from Year 5, ask them what they have learned about space, training like an astronaut and the planet Mars.
